What makes a certain chord or a combination of chords interesting? I just don’t see the how there would be a connection between two cords or how that could be violated in surprising and interesting ways, but then again I know hardly anything about music.

nuh uh, my neighbours car alarm is 5 sharps, so its probably g sharp minor (or a major), not c sharp minor, but you decided to play "A"" not sharped and call it c sharp minor when you literally see the scale and play it

Really curious to know from you as a piano teacher who sees a lot of people learn, how long would you anticipate an adult learning piano for the first time to take to get up to the level of skill of playing all 15 pieces shown? I know it varies, but what sort of range would you be thinking for someone who is quite dedicated to practicing?

What I like about your reaction videos is, as a total beginner, it's pointing out pitfalls not to fall into like not having a pedal. I'm very lucky in that I have a brand new Roland FP-30x to start on and I have a pedal for it. I do intend to use a book for learning but I'm going to supplement that with my own note spotting, scales and time learning. Although I'm not in a rush, I do look forward to being able to play something to my own perfectionist standard LOL

I just found your videos and I want to thank you. I am learning by myself. Its not the easiest thing. There is no local teacher where I live and dont want to drive 35 miles one way. You are amazing, you explain things so well and it is obvious that you love playing. I have been playing for over a year but not able to practice as much as I need to, so i keep making mistakes. I learn Fantasie Impromptu in my 2nd year, i learned the whole piece somehow but its like horrible handwriting. Atleast i learned polyrhythm

Although I've dabbled in music for many years, I've resolved to play piano properly and my goal is to walk into my local pub (has an upright) and play something fun and do it well :-) I'm literally awaiting delivery of my new digital piano today and I've already got two of the books you recommend. I'm planning my first set of goals.

Is it just me or do all of these sound fucking terrible? It's like a year 1700 version of those metal bands that mash on a guitar at a really fast pace, and it's technically impressive, but sounds horrible. Meanwhile, songs that people enjoy are often quite simple.

One thing I’m wondering is how many of these pieces would you recommend a beginner learning to performance standard? It seems like it would take around two years to learn all of them that well.
